The Danish Government is convinced that climate changes are not only a challenge, but also a great opportunity for businesses around the world. Part of the answer to fight climate changes is to develop green technologies and products. Climate change is also a source to new business ventures, new jobs and economic growth. In October 2009, the Danish Government will publish a business climate strategy, with the aim to ensure that Danish companies use the climate challenge as a driver for growth in business. Purpose The business climate strategy will ensure the best possible conditions for Danish businesses to make the best of the global needs to prevent and adapt to the climate changes. This must take place simultaneously with Denmark meeting its international obligations to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The business climate strategy is not a climate strategy, but a growth strategy where the need of reduction can be regarded as an opportunity for growth. A continuous course of growth can be achieved by using Danish companies’ positions of strength in the fields of development and sale of climate solutions to a growing global market. Danish technology and knowledge can globally be employed for reductions of emissions or adaptation to climate changes. In several instances the commercial opportunities are strongly attached to the issue of renewable energy and energy efficiency. The business climate strategy must however be a broader strategy including growth potentials rising from a broad segment of sectors as a result of the climate changes and the international and national demands of CO2 reduction. The business climate strategy will consequently be the government’s assembled proposition concerning improvement of Danish companies’ conditions for growth in the climate area.
