Clean Drinking Water For Olympic Athletes at the 2010 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships in Denmark - And For Children of The World
At the 2010 Kerteminde RS:X World Championships in Denmark, participants have to be very careful to rehydrate after each race. So the local organisers, Sail Event Kerteminde Sejlklub have organized unrestricted quantities of fresh, clean, cool drinking water... Straight from the tap! At the same time, they will be collecting charity donations for children in Third World countries so that they too can have clean drinking water.
With nearly 200 of the worlds best windsurfers due to compete in the 2010 Kerteminde RS:X World Championships in less than a week, it is crucial that the athletes pay careful attention to their fluid balance at all times. Therefore, the international federation stipulates in the contract with the local organisers that participants must have free access to clean drinking water.
Event Manager Flemming Kold is pleased to say: "In contrast to many of the world's host cities, we have access to unrestricted quantities of clean drinking water at all times in Kerteminde, which means that water is not an item of expenditure in our local event budget. But what is more important; the participants can have all the clean drinking water they want for free during their stay in Kerteminde. Nice and easy - And we can collect donations for the less fortunate children of the world.”
So the local organisers can not only take care of all the world's top windsurfers at 2010 Kerteminde RS:X World Championships, they can also care about the less fortunate children in third world countries at the dreamwater lounge and Just a Drop. Thus, the event week is named World Water Week, which means that concurrently with the competitions on the water, the three parties are running a charity collection earmarked for cleaner drinking water for the children of the world.
The windsurfers' welcome package includes a drinking bottle for refill in the event area.
The 2010 RS:X World Windsurfing Championships is scheduled from 27 August – 5 September. Behind the event organisation stand as strong partners as Sail Event Kerteminde Sailing Club in cooperation with The City of Kerteminde, Sport Event Fyn and Sport Event Denmark. The organisers are looking forward to welcoming all participants, officials and spectators to the beautiful City of Kerteminde.
