A record number of students from non-EU countries will be starting university in Denmark this autumn, according to figures from the Immigration Service.
Around 2,100 non-EU students have been admitted – an increase of 43 percent from last year and the highest figure ever.
Students from the US are most heavily represented in the figures, followed by those from China, Canada, Australia and Turkey. Although the number of Turkish university students decreased slightly compared to 2009, the Americans picked up the slack, as 794 students from the US will study in Denmark this year, compared to just 312 last year.
The Immigration Service cannot specifically account for the boom in American students because the statistics do not contain information on specific fields of education in relation to nationality. However, the data shows a significant increase in the number of foreign researchers, doctoral students and exchange students.
