The government is seeking to increase speeds on selected dual carriageways from the current speed limit of 80 km/h to 90 km/h.
The move is part of the government’s ‘Denmark in balance’ proposal and will see a pilot scheme in which speeds limits on some of the two-lane highways, most of which are in Jutland, are increased.
The government feels limits are too low on some of the safest stretches and could be increased. The move is backed by the Council for Safe Traffic.
The experiment is set to start later this autumn. The government has said that many of those who drive along the stretches already use speeds of between 90-100 km/h, and that an increased maximum speed would lead to improved traffic morale and safety, and increase drivers’ respect for speed limits.
