A Queen of Denmark
The Queens 40th Jubilee as Reign will be marked by an official programme from 10-15 January 2012.
The Danish monarchy can be traced back in history as far as to the Viking king Gorm the Old (d. 958). Though Denmark is one of the oldest monarchies in the World, a 40th jubilee for a monarch is a very rare occasion.
On the death of her father, King Frederik 9th, Her Majesty Queen Margrethe 2nd became the Queen of Denmark on 15th January 1972. She is Denmark’s second female monarch.

Her Majesty and the Royal family are extremely popular in Denmark. The Queen is very active and participates in many events in Denmark as well as abroad. She is a painter herself and is also very interested in archaeology and arts.
The Queens 40th Jubilee as Reign will be marked by an official programme from 10-15 January 2012.
