Danish firm receives cash reward for its energy saving initiatives
Danish company has received a DKK 4.5 million cheque in recognition of its substantial investment in energy saving initiatives in connection with building a new factory
There were big smiles all round last week when energy company Syd Energi handed over a cheque for DKK 4.5 million to the Danish company DS SM, which specialises in the surface treatment of wind turbine towers. The handsome sum was being given in recognition of energy saving initiatives in connection with the building of a new factory that will reduce energy consumption by up to 50%, writes the Danish Energy Association in its daily newsletter.
Syd Energi's subsidiary Enervision supplied the expert help when DS SM decided to build a new factory where energy efficiency was optimised down to the smallest detail. In all, DS SM invested almost DKK 40 million in energy saving measures. Calculations have subsequently shown that electricity and heat consumption has been reduced by an amount corresponding to the annual consumption of 1,000 households. In CO2 emission terms, it is equivalent to a reduction of 8,263 tons annually.
The DKK 4.5 million support to the investments made by DS SM are part of an agreement that Syd Energi has made with the Danish Energy Authority and The Ministry of Climate and Energy. The agreement is one of the steps being taken to ensure that Denmark can meet its obligations under the Kyoto Protocol.
