Writers
In this section of the website you will find short biographies of some of the Danish poets and novelists that have contributed to the history of Danish literature.
Only three Danish writers have ever won the Nobel Prize for their literary achievements: Henrik Pontoppidan and Karl Adolph Gjellerup (both 1917), and Johannes V. Jensen (1944).
But Denmark has had and continues to have many talented and widely known poets and novelists. There is, just to name one, Karen Blixen (widely known under the pseudonym of Isak Dinesen), who never won the Nobel Prize, but her tales from Africa have appealed to and enthralled audiences worldwide for a very long period of time.
