Environmental Research
Global and local environmental problems are growing in complexity. Human activities produce changes in the climate, proliferation of toxins, and the destruction of habitats for animals and plants.
This is why the future of our society depends on a group of highly qualified scientists who can analyse and evaluate the nature of the problems and suggest solutions.
All Danish universities have departments or centres devoted to environmental research.
Ecological Models that Adapt
On the 20th of August 2004 a Dane, Sven Erik Jørgensen, professor of environmental chemistry at The Danish University of Pharmaceutical Sciences was awarded the “Stockholm Water Price” for his pioneering work in developing models that can predict how the ecological systems of lakes and wetlands will evolve over time.
Just like a Fruit Fly
It turns out that humans and fruit flies share a group of genes that have to do with stress. At Aarhus Center for Environmental Stress Research (ACES) at University of Aarhus a group of scientists use fruit flies in their research. The goal is to improve our ability to identify and treat stress in other organisms such as humans and domesticated animals.
