COP15: biggest media event ever in Denmark
More than 1,400 journalists currently report from the Bella Center to the whole world from what is the biggest temporary media set-up ever in Denmark.
9/12-2009 by Marie Sauer-Johansen
Divya Das, anchorwoman on Danish TV2 News is one of the many Danish reporters at the conference.
“This is the first summit I have ever covered and I’m impressed with the size of the set-up and how well everything works,” she says.
Next week activity will skyrocket, when all of the approximately 3500 journalists accredited to the conference are expecxted to be on the spot, reporting round the clock.
Already now every one of the 24 stand-up positions for live television broadcasts is in use during the busiet period of the day, European prime time.
Most of the stand -up positions are located on a bridge spanning the middle of the conference center, with reporters literally working shoulder by shoulder. But the limited space does not bother Ms. Das.
"Although we work so closely together here, we make everything work. You actually get to know your neighbours very well during these days,” she says.
The entire media-set up is provided by Danish TV2|Denmark A/S, who has provided a total of 54 cameras, 300 kilometers of cables and 160 temporary cubicles for media to work from. In addition to this, there are 2400 microphones and 2000 spotlights at the Bella Center.
Live TV-signals are transmitted from Satellite News Gathering vans parked outside the centre to the whole world. At the moment, eight vans are enough, but more will arrive for the high-level segment next week.
TV2|Denmark A/S also films all plenary negotiations, press briefings and many side events, and when US President Obama arrives next week, TV2|Denmark A/S will film his and other heads of state's arrival at Copenhagen Airport.
All footage is made freely avaliable to to all media accredited to the conference, and can be bought by outside media at commercial rates.
The world public can also follow the conference live on COP15's official web-cast site.
